Tunisia
Tunisian officials are brainstorming on a bill aimed at stopping racism against fellow Africans.
Tunisia’s PM Youssef Chahed has called on members of parliament to help in the drafting of this law geared towards penalizing racism, stressing that it should be treated with urgency.
This comes a day after hundreds of African students gathered at the centre of Tunis to denounce multiple cases of aggression.
While celebrating the national day against racial discrimination, Tunisian officials had called for the setting up of a national strategy to change the mentality of citizens.
Tunisia currently hosts about 6000 students from Sub Sahara Africa.
Last Saturday three Congolese youths were stabbed to death in Central Tunis.
The suspected aggressor was arrested and his family later affirmed he could be having psychological problems.
Earlier in June, eight civil society organisations had presented a bill which also seek to penalize racial discrimination.
